About Us

The Farm

On the land we have the sheep, chickens, vegetable garden, and the orchard. We manage things one square foot at a time. Most of the sheep pasture runs along Orcas Road, but the sheep are regularly rotated to other parts of the farm. You can usually find the sheep around the house in early spring eating the surrounding hillsides.

The chickens have the whole orchard to run around. The blueberries are netted and we can enclose the chickens there to keep them safe from eagles. Yes, eagles love chicken. Chickens love blueberries. A feeding frenzy opportunity.

We prune the grapes occasionally throughout the summer. The vines with leaves are then fed to the sheep. Feeding frenzy. The grapes are planted on the north and east sides of the garden to reflect heat back to the vegetables and act as a natural wind break.

The Farmers

The Farmers are Bob and Maria Nutt. Retired teachers, volunteers with OIFR for over 25 years. We do 99% of the work by ourselves. It is truly team work that makes it all happen.
